Storm at IEBC as Claims Emerge on What Chebukati is Secretly Doing in Office

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has been experiencing various storms at the Headquarters in Anniversary Towers. A fresh one has emerged after it was reported that the Chairperson Mr. Wafula Chebukati is still secretly doing some things at the office despite the fact that he is on Terminal Leave.

Some of the IEBC officials spoke to the Daily Nation and they confirmed that the Chairperson is still doing some things yet he is not supposed to be making certain decisions. They said that the Chairman and the CEO Marjan Hussein are busy making some unilateral decisions on some of the major and senior appointments at the office.

The staff laid some allegations that Mr. Chebukati has secretly promoted some key staff for example the Directorate of voter Registration and Education, the Head of Boundaries Research, Head of Transport and Training and the Director of Finance among others without bringing the issue to the IEBC plenary as required.

The officials also said that according to Human Resource Policy, the requirements are that Grade Five Jobs and below scale appointments, should first be taken to the plenary for approval.

They also alleged that the Chairman is also engaging in some unnecessary foreign travels despite the fact that the President had issued a directive that State officials should not make unnecessary travels outside the country in order to cut costs and expenditure by the government Ministries and the Parastatals.

Some of the countries that the officials have recently visited are the United States, Malaysia, Mozambique, South Africa and also Dubai.
