Kenyatta University has still not fully overcome the tragic road accident that claimed the lives of 11 students of Public Health who lost their lives while heading to Mombasa for an Academic trip. The accident happened at Maungu in Voi.
The University held a solemn ceremony and the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Paul Wainaina disbursed a total of 2 million shillings.
Professor Wainaina gave a lot of thanks to President William Ruto for the generosity that he showed the institution. He also thanked the various people and shareholders who donated something to help the victims.
Each parent of the victims received a total of 181, 818 shillings in a cheque form. He also confirmed that most of the students who were hospitalized in different hospitals have been discharged and they are recovering well.
He also added that the incident shook the institution but they are committed to helping all the victims of the tragic accident. The Vice Chancellor also said that the institution will make sure that the funds that are being collected will be utilized for the purpose of the recovery of the victims.
One of the parents whose son perished in the accident by the name of Samuel Mureithi who is the father of the late John Mbereri said that Kenyatta University has provided them with solace and support as they try to get into terms with what transpired with their children.
The following are names of the students who perished in that accident are like Hellen Mbula Kisilu, John Mbiriri Mureithi, Patricia Murugi Mwangi, Felix Gori Nyaata and Austin Omondi Owino.
Others are, Rodgers Kiprono Rono, Navile Omondi Opiyo, Beneas Otieno, Vallary Akinyi Ouma, Michael Muteti and Oslo Mwendwa among others.
