Arsenal fans really trolled Mikel Merino when Mikel Arteta bought him instead of bolstering the striking department. The fans thought that, the club had already enough midfielders with Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice, Thomas Partey and Jorginho.
The Arsenal fans called Mikel Merino all sought of names, they told him that he is not fit to play for the club because he is too slow and he plays in a slow motion manner. They said that, his pace cannot match the game that Arsenal is playing.
They even accused him of dragging the ball too much. As if that is not enough, some Arsenal fans also said that Mikel Merino was only signed because he can win very many duels but he is not that good enough, they even added that, they have not seen him excel so much in winning those duels as was alleged when he was bought.
The Arsenal fan base has now changed tune after the player who they were trolling, is the same one who was brought from the bench and given the role of a centre forward against Leicester City. He came at a time when things were not moving for Arsenal and transformed the team.
He single handedly gave Arsenal two crucial goals and three points in the dying minutes of the game. He has never scored a brace for Arsenal and the fans were really shocked that he can indeed act as a false nine. They even said that, he was so relaxed and composed and did not waste any chance that he got.
The Arsenal fans apologized to Mikel Merino and they said that, they are very sorry for trolling him. They said that, they now understand why Mikel Arteta bought him. They promised that they will support him and they now want him to continue acting as their striker until a solution is gotten.
