Harambee Stars will be in action today as from 4 pm and the National team will face Burundi. The only sad thing about it is that this is a home game but it will be played in Malawi because there are no standard fields in the country to host a match of that caliber.
This is somehow a setback because the players needed the full capacity cheering squad from the home ground. This could have given the players a more upper hand and an added advantage because the supporters could have pushed them to the limits and made them to achieve the best.
The match will be played at the Bingu National Stadium and the players will wear the green kit. The team will however miss some key players like Joseph Okumu, Eric Ouma Marcelo, Amos Nondi, Masud Juma and Eric Johanna. These have been very key components of the National team and their absence will be greatly felt.
Harambee Stars however still have an upper hand over their rivals because the new players who have been given the call up will try and show what the Coach has been missing. They will surely seize the opportunity and cement their places in the National team.
The following are the players who were initially named in the travelling squad to Malawi:
Goalkeepers
Ian Otieno, Bryne Omondi and Patrick Matasi
Defenders
Joseph Okumu, Johnstone Omurwa, Collins Sichenje, Zak Vyner, Alphonse Omija, Erik Ouma Otieno, Abud Omar, Daniel Anyembe and Tobias Knost.
Baron Ochieng of Sofapaka was later given a maiden call-up to the National team.
Midfielders
John Ochieng, Anthony Akumu, Richard Odada, Chrispine erambo, Timothy Ouma, Duke Abuya, Kenneth Muguna, Austin Odhiambo, Ronney Onyango and Eric Johanna.
Forwards
John Avire, Benson Omalla and Michael Olunga.
The squad is full of star studded players and they can bring joy to Kenyans by collecting all the three points knowing very well that they are in a very tough and tight pool.
