Kind Matatu Operator Refunds Fare to Students After the Government Postponed Reopening of Schools

A kind matatu driver plying the route heading to Meru was captured on camera refunding fare to students. He was also captured directing them on where to get the buses so that they can head back home.

This comes just hours after the Ministry of Education sent a memo in the wee hours of the night directing that the Ministry of Education has postponed the reopening of schools with another further one week to next week.

Many people praised the matatu driver for his kind gesture and for acting like a parent by refunding the fare to the students and directing them on the way forward.

This sudden move by the Ministry of Education has not gone well with the parents because the memo was released when some students had already travelled to school and bearing in mind the tough economic times, they are torn in between going back home and staying in school.

Kenyans said that the Ministry of Education had the whole weekend but just chose to send the memo at the wee hours of the night when people were sleeping. They said that there are very many parents who have already suffered owing to the fact that it was not easy for some of the parents to even get the fare that was just to take the students to school, leave alone even the school fees.

Some of the Kenyans also said that last night they bumped into students who are travelling far doing some shopping and it seems that they were travelling overnight so that they can reach their schools by today morning.

It is very unfair because the students had already risked their lives and putting them again on the road with the raging floods will even risk their lives more because of the unpreparedness of the Ministry of Education.
